Dr. Barnard completed her Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience at Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts. After working for several years in the Neuropsychology department at UT Southwestern Medical Center, she pursued her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Denver, where she was awarded a National Research Service Award Fellowship from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) to study gene-environment interactions in Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Dr. Barnard completed her internship and post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Illinois Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois, where she received APPCN-compliant training in Pediatric Neuropsychology and pursued specialty training in the diagnostic assessment of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs).
In 2011, Dr. Barnard became a faculty member at the #1 ranked Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, where she founded and served as Director of the Developmental Neuropsychology Clinic (DNC), a doctoral-level training program in Pediatric Neuropsychology. Dr. Barnard and her team at the DNC evaluated hundreds of patients who presented with a wide variety of brain-based conditions, and Dr. Barnard participated in numerous research projects investigating neurocognitive aspects of ASDs, hydrocephalus, sensorineural hearing loss, and exposure to toxins.
Dr. Barnard has been in independent practice since 2014 and returned home to Texas in 2016. She is a member of the American Psychological Association, APA's Division 40 (Society for Clinical Neuropsychology), and is a board-certified diplomate of the American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology (AACN).
